The ten years Jason Garrett spent with the Dallas Cowboys can be considered as a time that was spent in frustration. He never got the team to the Super Bowl in spite of the immense amount of talent and support he got from Jerry Jones. His reputation as an NFL coach is pretty much down the drain after his failure to bring the club some much-needed success.

The question he faces at this point in his career is simple: What should he do in order to rebuild his reputation as a head coach that teams will give him another shot at coaching an NFL team?

The answers available to him are no perfect solutions to his worries. However, he has to understand that he doesn't have the best cards in his hand. What's important for him is to rebuild his image enough that a team with high ambitions like the Cowboys would look his way.

Here are some of the roadmaps available for Garrett in order to get his career back on track.

Become an offensive coordinator for a playoff contender

For an offensive mind like Garrett, the quickest way for him to prove his worth to prospective employers is by showing that he still has what it takes to coach a high-powered offense. The quickest way to establish that is by signing up to become the offensive coordinators of one of the league's top offenses.

One possible destination for him would be the Kansas City Chiefs. Eric Bieniemy, their current offensive coordinator, is being interviewed for a head coaching job at the New York Giants. If he applies for that spot immediately after Bieniemy gets hired, he'll have a great opportunity in his hands.

He would be working with one of the best young quarterbacks in Patrick Mahomes. Helping to make a deep playoff run will definitely boost his stock after plenty of disappointing seasons with the Cowboys.

Lead a rebuilding team

Another good option for Garrett to take is to head coaching position for one of the struggling franchises in the league. These teams always crave to have a strong player leading them back to the playoffs, and Garrett is a very suitable candidate for these teams.

There are plenty of teams in the league who can use the skills of a respected offensive mind. If he doesn't get a shot immediately, there will be firings in the middle of the season that should open up a spot for him.

Take his time and regroup

The option that doesn't immediately reward Garrett is to take time off the field and spend time with his family. He just spent ten exhausting years with Dallas, but none of those resulted in a Super Bowl title. It's obvious in his final run with the Cowboys that he's exhausted everything he could with the team.

If he took time off the field and recollect everything that happened this season, he should be able to grow as a coach and a person. Once he gets his thoughts sorted, the perfect opportunity will soon come knocking.
