Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Carlos Rodon was slated to take the bump for Thursday's Field of Dreams Game against the New York Yankees, but he was just placed on the IL due to shoulder fatigue, per The Athletic's James Fegan. With Rodon out, Lance Lynn will get the call instead.

Meanwhile, White Sox manager Tony La Russa is also going to miss this historic game. Sadly, La Russa won't be managing because of the death of his sister's husband. Miguel Cairo will fill in for La Russa.

It's a bummer for Rodon that he won't be able to pitch. He has had a fantastic season with a 2.38 ERA and 160 strikeouts in 109 2/3 innings pitched. The lefty is 9-5 on the season for the 67-47 White Sox.

Lynn, though, is a great replacement. He's a fellow Cy Young candidate thanks to his league-leading 2.04 ERA and 130 strikeouts in 114 2/3 innings.  The burly White Sox righty is 10-3 on the 2021 season.

Chicago is in first place in the AL Central by a whopping 10.5-game margin. The Yankees, meanwhile, are in third place in the competitive AL East. New York is seven games behind the Tampa Bay Rays and just two games behind the slumping Boston Red Sox.

The Field of Dreams Game will take place in Dyersville, Iowa. This is the site of the baseball field in the film starring Kevin Costner. The game was initially scheduled for 2020 but was postponed due to COVID-19.
