Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease just continues to make history in his fourth campaign in the majors.

Cease entered Chicago's road series finale against the Minnesota Twins needing a mere seven strikeouts to reach 500 for his career. He came into the contest with 142 total strikeouts recorded on the season coupled with a career-high 13.1 strikeouts per nine innings mark.

It took Cease a while, but his strikeout of Twins left fielder Nick Gordon via a 90 mph slider in the fifth inning got him to the landmark 500th career punchout.

Cease made notable White Sox team history with the strikeout. He became the fastest pitcher in franchise history to record 500 strikeouts, surpassing Chris Sale, who did so in 472.1 innings pitched.

Cease simply continues to prove that he deserved to earn a nod for the upcoming MLB All-Star Game. He has been the backbone of a White Sox starting rotation that has had its fair share of ups and downs over the course of the campaign. He entered the White Sox’s final game of their first half schedule leading the group in multiple stats, including in ERA+ (172).

In the big picture, Cease is also making a formidable case to receive a hefty payday from the White Sox down the road, which comes as he is set to be arbitration-eligible in the next three years.
