Chicago White Sox third baseman Jake Burger brought a deep-fried surprise to the table on the most perfect day, as he sent one to the moon in the fifth inning of Saturday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox. It was more than just a regular home run, though, as he knocked that one out of the field on – you guessed it – National Burger Day!

Plus, he hit that homer at Guaranteed Rate Field in front of White Sox home fans and against their bitter Windy City Showdown rivals.

How cool was that?

Burger smoked that ball in the bottom of the fifth inning. off a pitch from Cubs righty Keegan Thompson, who nonetheless came away with a victory in a 5-1 win.

Behold, one of the most glorious moments in the tasty history of food and pro-athletes crossing paths in a completely random way.

You can't make that stuff up, people.

Burger finished the game 3 of 4, but his effort was clearly not enough to give the White Sox a win because apparently none of his teammates share the same name with him. As someone who has such a salivating name, Burger surely has heard about it all his life.

Via Scott Merkin of MLB.com:

“Honestly, probably there are some clips from 2014 in the St. Louis media that they are having some sort of fun,” said Burger during a recent interview, referencing word play involving his name dating back to collegiate days for Missouri State. “I like the Smash Burger, though. That’s always fun. Burger Bomb. Those are the two favorites.”

Burger entered Saturday's game hitting just .228 and with only three home runs and 11 RBIs for the White Sox this season. Perhaps the 2022 National Burger Day would go down as where the infielder finally turns on the grill and put it together at the plate more consistently for the rest of the 2022 MLB season.
