If a player spends a lot of time with one team, there comes a time where they must make a decision. That decision is whether to retire or keep their career going and join another team. That decision came in the offseason for Clay Matthews after spending 10 years with the Green Bay Packers.

Matthews had four double-digit sacks seasons in Green Bay and he might be in for another with the Los Angeles Rams. Matthews was brought to Los Angeles to try and revive his exceptional career. It seems to be working. He has five sacks and three forced fumbles through four games this season.

The Rams are 3-1 and have an important game against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5. They suffered an ugly loss in Week 4 and Matthews is a huge factor in turning the tide.

Rams Defense vs. Russell Wilson

One of the best quarterbacks in the league, and certainly the best dual-threat, plays in Seattle. Russell Wilson has never had a losing season in his career and can make plays using his legs and his arm.

Matthews will need to get to Wilson if the Rams want to slow him down. Right now, the Rams have the best defensive player in Aaron Donald. If he is facing double and triple teams, someone else will need to break free and it has been Matthews. The Rams will come into this game and try to keep Wilson in the pocket. Also, Matthews will have responsibility in helping clog up the middle so Wilson cannot escape for a big gain.

No defense is built with one player. Donald is a freak of nature, but he cannot do it all by himself. When the Rams added Matthews, they added experience, leadership, and talent. At 33 years old, Matthews found a new home and is succeeding immediately.

If Matthews makes his presence known in this game, the Rams will have a good defensive day. Seattle will send multiple blockers at Donald, which will leave Matthews open for a sack or two. He will get to Wilson at least once in this game to raise his sack total even higher. Whether the Rams win the game or not will rely on Jared Goff taking care of the ball, but Matthews is the key to the defense.
