The lack of options at wide receiver was well-documented for the New England Patriots in 2019. As the offseason looms, could Dez Bryant be an option for New England?

Since being released by the Dallas Cowboys in 2017, Bryant has been trying to find his way back onto a roster. Just two years ago, it appeared that Bryant was going to be catching passes from Drew Brees.

Sadly, soon after he signed with the New Orleans Saints, Bryant suffered a torn Achilles in practice. The veteran wideout was never able to prove himself in Sean Payton's offense in New Orleans.

Following the injury, the free-agent wide receiver immediately began working on getting back to full health. With a couple of years between his injury and now, Bryant believes he is ready to produce again.

Fast forward to now and Dez Bryant is still itching to play in the NFL again.

As a matter of fact, Bryant took to Twitter to show what teams he wants to suit up for. Despite the Patriots not being listed, here is why Dez Bryant should campaign his talents to New England this offseason.

The Patriots have room for him to start

Heading into the offseason, the Patriots undoubtedly want to bring Tom Brady back in 2020. If they are able to retain Brady, the focus of New England should be surrounding him with better weapons than he had in 2019.

Over the course of the season, the Patriots deployed a receiving corps that included the likes of Julian Edelman, N'Keal Harry, Phillip Dorsett, Mohamed Sanu, and Jakobi Meyers. Among those guys, only Edelman was a reliable target for Brady.

Additionally, Dorsett is set to become a free agent and everyone outside of Edelman and Harry aren't guaranteed roles moving forward. In light of that, Dez Bryant could immediately be given a prominent role in the offense.

Regardless of where he signs next, it's unclear if Bryant would become a starting wide receiver again. Considering how the wide receivers were for the Patriots in 2019, it's tough to envision him being a depth option in New England.

New England is capable of saving his career

As Bryant hopes to return to the NFL, he's made it known what teams he'd be interested in playing for. However, none of the teams he listed have shown any interest in adding him to their roster.

While the Patriots haven't expressed any interest either, they are known to be an organization that can revive careers. Back in 2007, New England was able to acquire Randy Moss as the legendary wideout was seemingly nearing the end of his career.

But with Brady throwing him passes, Moss had three phenomenal seasons with the Patriots in his 30s. Even though Bryant isn't Moss, Bryant still has something left in the tank. Despite being out of football since 2017, Bryant is still 31-years-old.

Given that, the former first-round pick can inject a jolt into his career by joining the Patriots. A good season with the Patriots could give Bryant a few more years in the NFL.
