The Miami Dolphins will enter the 2021 offseason with an early NFL Draft pick from the struggling Houston Texans. If the Texans were to continue to lose and the Dolphins enter the 2021 NFL Draft with the first pick overall, would they draft a quarterback to play over their most recent first-round pick, Tua Tagovailoa?

On the daily Locked On Dolphins podcast, host Kyle Crabbs answers a listener’s question about what the Dolphins would do if the top pick in the NFL Draft fell into their lap courtesy of the Texans:

Kyle Crabbs: “Wouldn’t it be smart to go ahead and start Tua now so we can evaluate him now? If the Texans leave us with the top pick, we could draft Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields. So why not go ahead and get a good sample size, and if he can’t cut it or if health is an issue, we can go ahead and get another quarterback?”

“So good question. This is something I’ve explored over at The Draft Network recently as far as what the Dolphins would do if they ended up with the first pick. It won’t go to Miami with two wins already, but if Houston were to end up giving the Dolphins the top pick in the NFL Draft, what would they do? I can tell you that Tua is the third-highest grade I’ve given out in five years. Trevor Lawrence will be more highly graded than Tua, and I would take the more highly rated quarterback. A GM’s job is to improve every position on the team as much as possible, and I say that with absolutely zero disrespect to Tua.”
