Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett is a solid quarterback, but with his play this season it doesn't look like he should be the long-term option for the Colts. The last three games for the Colts have been a good microcosm of the issues with Brissett.

In two of the games, he threw for under 150 yards and the one game where he threw for 319 yards he also had two interceptions.

One of the key issues when looking at Brissett's game is he still seems to be stuck in the mindset of a backup quarterback. When a backup quarterback comes in, it's usually a simpler game-plan and the quarterback is to not take too many chances in hopes of not making any mistakes.

Brissett isn't a backup quarterback now though, and he needs to take some of those chances. To move the ball and have an explosive offense, usually chances need to be taken. Brissett has heard all the talk about pushing the ball downfield and it caused those two interceptions. When coach Frank Reich was asked about the interceptions, he admitted it might have been forcing the ball that caused it.

“That would seem logical,” Reich admitted Monday. “It really would, but I never got that feeling. Obviously, that last ball that he threw down the field, you know we’re in a two-minute drive but we still had enough time. I just think he probably wishes he had that one back. But I didn’t feel like during the day that he was pressing it at all.”

With Brissett under center they won't ever be terrible, but it's hard to imagine they will be playing for Super Bowl's anytime soon. The team would probably be better off going through a rebuild and trying to find a franchise quarterback than to start Brissett next season.

One area the Colts could look would be the trade market. There is a chance the Jacksonville Jaguars could look to trade Nick Foles and the Colts would seem like a perfect landing spot. Reich and Foles led the Eagles to a Super Bowl title and Reich could get him back on track.

The team could also decide to go through the full rebuild and hope to hit on a quarterback in the draft. No matter which way the team decides to go, if they continue to use Brissett past this season, they won't be Super Bowl contenders.
