Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Arizona Cardinals. He is in line for another big game against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 14.
Against the Cardinals, Goff threw for 424 yards and two touchdowns. 323 of those yards were in the first half of alone. The game was a nice change-up to Goff's struggles through the 2019 season.
Goff is playing with confidence after his performance against the Cardinals.
“When you’re drafted high like I was, it’s already kind of in your head you are that guy, you are the face of the franchise,” Goff said via the San Diego Tribune. “You have to carry yourself that way. Over the last four years, it’s been a maturation process and I feel like I’m getting to the point where I’m feeling really, really comfortable as that, and have been for a few years, at this point.”
That confidence could translate onto the playing field in a must-win environment for the Rams.
The Rams and the Seahawks faced off once already this year, with the Seahawks winning the matchup. Even though the Seahawks came out ahead, Goff did everything in his power to lead the Rams to a victory. He finished the game going 29 for 49 passing for 395 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
In that game, the Seahawks made it a focus to take away Todd Gurley. Even though he finished with two touchdowns, he only had 51 yards rushing.
Those stats are a good microcosm of how the Seahawks defense has been this year. On the season, the Seahawks defense is giving up only 99.6 yards per game on the ground, good for eighth-best in the NFL.
Where the Seahawks defense has struggled is trying to slow down the passing game. They are giving up 269.3 yards per game through the air — 29th in the NFL.
Even in terrible weather a couple of weeks ago, the Seahawks gave up 256 yards to Carson Wentz. There is a chance it could rain in Los Angeles for Sunday night football, but it's not expected to be windy. Goff should not have to fight the conditions.
This is a game that the Rams need to win, and for that to happen, Goff is going to need to have a big performance. The good news is all the conditions seem to be favorable to make that happen, meaning he has a chance to keep the Rams' playoff hopes alive.
