The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Trevor Lawrence with the top choice of the 2021 NFL Draft after he had a tremendous career at Clemson. He was heralded as one of the best quarterbacks in recent memory in the college game and was likely slotted to take the reins as the Jaguars starting quarterback.

However, new head coach Urban Meyer– yes, the same Urban Meyer that coached Tim Tebow– has been non-committal on starting Lawrence, and Minshew has definitely played well.

But, would Urban Meyer REALLY start Gardner Minshew over Trevor Lawrence? In all honesty, the answer is no. And if he does, it would not go over well in the land of the Jaguars fans.

It would be a travesty, a disaster, and a horrific beginning for Meyer, Regardless of how Lawrence performs during the remainder of the preseason, they have to roll with him. He was the top pick, he will go down as one of the best college quarterbacks of all time, and he will be sensational in the NFL.

Remember the Miami Dolphins and how they handled their situation with Tua Tagovailoa? The Jaguars can't afford to do that.

The worst thing that Lawrence does is put fans in the stands, sell jerseys, and provide viewers with entertainment. If he struggles mightily, so be it. The Jaguars aren't going to win the division this season. Moreover, the Jaguars are almost assured to have a better record than 2020, when they won just one game during the regular season.

Lawrence is the future, and while Minshew didn't perform terribly during his stint thus far with the Jaguars, it would make no sense to hand him the job as the starting quarterback.

It just wouldn't make any sense, and if Meyer really makes that decision, then the hiring by the front office will also be in question. The last thing they want to do is shy fans away from attending games, shy away from interest in their team.

Lawrence is the answer, plain and simple, and it shouldn't even be a discussion one bit.
