It was an All-American battle on Centre Court. Teen sensation Coco Gauff took on 20-year-old Amanda Anisimova, with the latter emerging victorious in a hard-fought, three set battle. After a backhand winner that secured the victory, Anisimova lifted her hands above her head in disbelief and smiled. It was her debut on the storied grounds of Centre Court, the main court used at Wimbledon. In the post-match interview, Anisimova became emotional, with the crowd at the All-England Club realizing how special the moment was.

Anisimova said that “it was the most special day of my career.” It's hard to argue with her. The Anisimova-Gauff Wimbledon match went to a first-set tiebreak, with the 20-year-old jumping out to a 4-1 lead.

However, Gauff stormed back, winning the next six points to take the first set 7-6. It was all Anisimova from there. She won the next two sets, 6-2 and 6-1, securing her 13th 3-set match win, the most on the WTA Tour this year, per The Tennis Podcast.

It's another impressive win for Anisimova, as Gauff had made the finals at this year's French Open. The 20-year-old Anisimova has advanced as far as the semifinals of the French Open back in 2019, representing her best career result at any Grand Slam. She has a bit of momentum, having made it to the fourth round in three straight Grand Slams.

However, a tough test awaits Anisimova in the Round of 16. Harmony Tan, who defeated 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams earlier in the tournament, will be on the other end of the court.

Still, if Anisimova can strike the ball the way she did against Gauff, she could make things difficult for Tan.

It will certainly be fun to watch.
