Serena Williams made her triumphant return to tennis Tuesday at one of her favorite places to play, the All England Club at Wimbledon. In her opening round match, Williams was taking on Harmony Tan of France, the 115th ranked player in the world. In what turned out to be an incredible match, Serena Williams and Harmony Tan played for over three hours. Ultimately, Williams lost to Tan 5-7, 6-1, 6-7 (10-7).

It was the all-time great's first match since retiring with injury in the first round of Wimbledon last year. After a full year off, Williams was hopeful to make a deep run at this year's tournament. It was not to be as Tan played extremely well in crucial moments.

Williams was shaky in the first set, but probably should have won it. But hit too many unforced errors that caught up with her. She finally got her footing in the second set, cruising 6-1. But it was the third set that had everyone on the edge of their seat.

It was an intense, back and forth set. Williams had the opportunity to serve for the match, but was broken. She later staved off a match point herself, as the two would head on to a tiebreak. The 23-time Grand Slam Champion jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the tiebreak, only to watch Tan rip off the next five points. At Wimbledon, it's the first to 10 points (win by two).

Williams hit a couple more unforced errors and ultimately lost 10-7 in the tiebreak. It was hard to watch Williams falter as most could not help but root for her. But credit should be given to Tan, who played extremely well and did not back down.
