Washington Wizards head coach Scott Brooks was not happy about the lack of focus his team showed in a 133-126 loss to the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday.

Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal noted the coach “ripped us a new one” following the loss, considering the Wizards fell behind by 27 points at the half, only to erase that deficit in the third quarter before letting it get away again in the final period.

“I can't say any of the words he said, but I think we got the message for sure,” said Beal, according to Lina Washington of ABC 10.

Beal did his part by pouring in a game-high 35 points and eight assists, but the Wizards allowed the moribund Kings to shoot a crisp 56.2% from the floor and connect on 13 of their 29 3-point attempts (44.8%). Seven of the nine Kings rotation players scored in double figures, and Sacramento beat Washington on the glass repeatedly to gain a plus-11 advantage on the boards.

It doesn't help that the Wizards aren't getting very much rebounding from their center spot. Thomas Bryant is still working his way back from injury, playing only 19 minutes and putting up 12 points and four rebounds in a perfect night from the field and the foul line.

Washington's defense has also simply been a problem all season. The Wizards are giving up a whopping 120.1 points per game, the worst mark in the NBA.

Much like the Kings, the Wizards are fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive, now 4.5 games behind the Orlando Magic for the eighth seed. Washington is 4-6 over the last 10 after this latest loss, and the margin for error is thin in these final 22 games, considering Orlando and the Brooklyn Nets will be jostling for position the rest of the way.
