Davis Bertans is having the best season of his young career, helping the Washington Wizards remain competitive despite a long-term injury from franchise superstar John Wall. The sweet-shooting big man, however, has a personal goal in mind — making it to Chicago for the 2020 All-Star Weekend as part of the contingent of 3-point shooters duking it out for the long-distance crown.

Unlike last year's competition, the 6-foot-10 forward feels like the giant leap he's made this year gives the league little to no excuse to ignore him from the final slate this time around per Yahoo! Sport's Dan Feldman.

“I don’t think they can use the same excuse if they don’t take me again,” Bertans said.

The ‘excuse' in question is that he reportedly ‘didn't shoot enough' — an assertion Bertans disputes considering that Dallas Mavericks veteran Dirk Nowitzki made it although he concedes that the rationale is understandable. The Latvian also believes that being on a small market (playing for the San Antonio Spurs at the time) likely played a factor too.

Nonetheless, Bertans is making sure (whether intentional or not) that they can't use that reason anymore as he's attempting 8.7 shots from behind the arc — twice as much as he did with the Spurs and also connecting at a blistering 44.7-percent, also a career-high. What's even more shocking is that he's doing so a few steps farther from the line, a trend that's fast becoming the norm.

Bertans is also the subject of trade rumors since he's bound to be a free agent and expected to cash in, but the Wizards insist their version of Splash Mountain isn't going anywhere.
