New Washington Wizards point guard Isaiah Thomas explained why he decided to sign with the Wizards this offseason in an interview with Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype. Thomas claimed that in the end, he wanted to go to the team that gave him the most opportunity to return to his old form:

“This free-agency period was all about opportunity. That’s what it came down to and what it was all about for me: being put in a position where I can be successful and having a big enough opportunity to show the world that I can still play at a high level. When the Wizards called and showed interest, with John Wall being out possibly the whole year, that seemed like a big opportunity for me to be able to showcase that I’m 100 percent healthy and that I can still play at the high level that I’m used to playing at. That was the biggest thing – that was the only thing – coming into this free agency. I’m excited. I’m excited just to join this Wizards team and I can’t wait to take advantage of this opportunity.”

Thomas will be the presumed Wizards starter at point guard to begin this season.

The former last pick of the 2011 draft is just two years removed from averaging 28.9 points game for the Boston Celtics and carrying them on an emotional playoff run.

After hip issues forced Thomas to play in only 44 games in the last two seasons, the guard is out to prove he can still play at a high level.
