Washington Wizards star point guard John Wall is contemplating surgery for his injured left heel that could keep him out for six to eight months, according to Candace Buckner of The Washington Post.

Shams Charania of The Athletic is reporting that Wall has attempted to play through the pain from bone spurs this season, but the pain is becoming too much for the five-time All-Star to overcome. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Brian Windhorst report the point guard is planning to have the surgery.

Wall is having another good season statistically, but Washington's year has been a complete disaster so far. Wall's averaging numbers on par with what is expected of the star point guard, but it's not translating to a successful record.

Honestly, opting for surgery may be the best thing for Wall and the Wizards. For Wall, he could take this year to get completely healthy. As for the Wizards, the team entered the season with the belief they could become a contender in the Eastern Conference, but that belief has been extinguished in the first few months of the season.

The Wizards are currently 13-23 and look hopeless. Of course, it's not impossible that they make a run at the seven or eight seed in the weaker East, but there's no way they advance very far once they make the playoffs.

If Wall decides to sit out, the Wizards can initiate a fire sale and tank this season for a high pick in next year's draft. The Wizards aren't far from the bottom of the league and could easily drop to the bottom of the standings without their superstar point guard.
