John Wall may be an All-Star point guard for the Washington Wizards now, but at one point, he was cut from his high school's basketball team. This is hard to believe, considering Wall put together one of the greatest high school highlight tapes of all time. However, Wall confirmed it was true and his response was to laugh it off.

“It’s still funny to me to this day. I should have never got cut. But it happens. But that’s when I really started taking basketball to another level, ‘cause that’s the first time I ever saw my mother care about basketball and cry,” said Wall to Chick Hernandez of The Athletic. “Like, she literally was crying. She never cried about nothing else in basketball before. Like, she enjoyed me playing, she enjoyed going to my games and stuff, but she never cried. She was like, okay, he’s good, but whatever.”

Avery Bradley and Xavier Henry were the only guards ranked above Wall in his high school class. However, they were both listed as shooting guards. The top-ranked point guard prospect in the nation somehow found himself without a high school team at one point. It's ridiculous.

He went on a tear during his lone year at Kentucky and was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. As a 28-year-old, John Wall has racked up five All-Star selections. To this day, most consider him to be one of the fastest players in the world with the basketball.

Wall hopes to take his Wizards into a deep playoff run this year in a transforming Eastern Conference. He's been working all summer, so we'll see if he was able to take his game to another level again this season.
