John Wall has been the face of the Washington Wizards pretty much since the franchise drafted him with the No. 1 overall pick in 2010.

But Wall's Wizards tenure has come to an end after the team traded him to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday.

The five-time All-Star authored a heartfelt goodbye to D.C., thanking the city and Wizards fans for the endless support. Wall also stated he would “ALWAYS” have love for D.C., concluding by saying he will never forget what it meant to put on for The District.

Wall accomplished quite a bit with the Wizards. He made All-NBA and All-Defensive teams and helped build the franchise into a winner.

Unfortunately, Wall and the Wizards had a bitter breakup.

The former Kentucky star dealt with a myriad injuries in the past few years, including a torn Achilles that forced him to miss the entirety of the 2019-20 season.

Wall eventually requested a trade after reports surfaced the Wizards were discussing a swap that would send him the Houston Rockets in exchange for Russell Westbrook. General manager Tommy Sheppard said Washington would not move Wall, but eventually agreed to send him to H-Town.

However, Wall's roots in the city run far beyond basketball. He was renowned in D.C. for his philanthropic work, which included a massive fundraiser for rent assistance during the pandemic and, more recently, taking part in multiple food banks.

Things will certainly feel different next year, both for Wall and Wizards fans. But Wall made it clear Thursday he will never forget the love affair he experienced with D.C.
