Ahead of the Washington Wizards' matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers, Moe Wagner has been ruled out as a result of an ankle injury, per Fred Katz of The Athletic.

After being selected 25th overall during the 2018 NBA Draft, Wagner averaged 4.8 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 0.6 assists with the Lakers in 2018-19. There wasn't much opportunity for him to contribute given that he appeared in only 43 games and averaged a mere 10.4 minutes per game.

Wagner has suited up for 21 games this season for the Wizards. During those performances, he has averaged 11.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists. His production has increased significantly since his rookie campaign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

There have been numerous impressive performances from Wagner at times early this season. His greatest display came against the Minnesota Timberwolves when he recorded 30 points and 15 rebounds off the bench in 25 minutes while going 13-of-15 (86.7%) from the field.

With John Wall sidelined, Washington is needing supporting cast players to show progress in their development like Wagner has shown. Other players such as Davis Bertans, Rui Hachimura, and Thomas Bryant have shown positive signs as well.

So far this season, the Wizards have posted an 8-19 record and ahead of only the Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks, and Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference standings. Next season, they will be in a better position to compete.

If Wagner can continue to show progress in his development, he should fill an important role for the Wizards. At just 22-years-old, there is still plenty of room for him to grow as a player.
