Although he's been a busy man this offseason, Washington Wizards rookie Rui Hachimura says he is excited to face Team USA at the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

Hachimura has been through a lot in a short period of time. The Wizards selected the Japanese-born forward with the ninth overall pick in this summer's draft. From there, he was off to minicamp with his new team, then Summer League play, and now he's playing in the World Cup with the Japanese side.

“It’s been crazy,” Hachimura told The Athletic. “I got drafted. We went to D.C. and had a minicamp, and went to the Summer League, and now we’re in the World Cup. It’s been a crazy summer, but I’ve been having fun. I’ve played a lot of games this summer everywhere … and I don’t know how much I’ve improved but I have more confidence in myself. And then, I am just excited for the season next year, this year.”

Japan will face Team USA in the Group E finale on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. ET. The Japanese cannot advance, as the team fell to 0-2 in pool play, but Hachimura says he and his teammates are going to compete:

“They’re obviously a good team,” Hachimura said. “I think they’re going to be like the champion or whatever, but we’ve got to compete and we’ve got to show what we can do in the world.”

Opposing sides have been playing Hachimura close in the World Cup, sending double and even triple teams at him at times. Despite that fact, he has still managed to be an effective scorer. In Tuesday's 89-76 loss to the Czech Republic, he scored 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting.
