The Washington Wizards fell to the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night, 120-91. The blowout loss came much to the chagrin of Russell Westbrook, who took full responsibility for Washington's shortcomings.

Westbrook produced yet another triple double, his 18th of the season. The 16 point, 11 rebound, 12 assist performance also featured a dismal 9 turnovers. The Wizards currently sit in the 12th seed in the Eastern conference, losing 7 of their last 10 with a 17-30 record on the season.

“A lot of it starts with myself. Just a shitty job overall taking care of the ball…This one’s on my hands, my shoulders. I gotta do a better job of leading us,” said Westbrook.

The star point guard has been averaging a triple double so far this year, a feat that has only been achieved for a full season by Westbrook himself and Oscar Robertson. Despite the eye popping numbers, the Wizards have fallen far short of expectations.

The backcourt of Westbrook and all star Bradley Beal was supposed to be one of the league’s premier duos this season. Westbrook’s juiced stats are accompanied by Beal’s league leading 31.3 points per game.

But things have not panned out in the nation’s capital, as the supporting cast has not provided much help for the star studded backcourt. Promising young players like Rui Hachimura and Deni Avdija have not proven to be the winning ensemble that Washington needs to crack into the playoff picture.

The Wizards have to start firing on all cylinders, stars and role players alike, if they have any hope of playing basketball beyond the month of May.
