Washington Wizards’ Russell Westbrook became the second player in NBA history to average 22 points and 15 assists over three games, per ESPN’s stats and info. The one-time MVP has been averaging 25.3 points, 16.0 rebounds and 15.0 assists per game in the Wizards’ past three games against the Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, and Charlotte Hornets. The Wizards went on to win two of those three games thanks to Westbrook's dominance.
There’s no question that Westbrook still has more in his tank. Despite criticisms, he’s been a pretty decent player for the Wizards this season. He’s an NBA fantasy darling (except for the technical fouls and turnovers) but otherwise, he’s been on a tear. Westbrook provides leadership, sets an example for his teammates, and is just a player who you know will give it 100 percent every night. This is something the Wizards are banking on as they climb the Eastern Conference standings this season.
This season, Westbrook is one of the few players averaging a triple-double. Brodie averages 21.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 10.5 assists per game, as the motor of his team. While the 32-year-old is giving it his all, Washington needs more from everyone on their roster to make it to the playoffs. Bradley Beal is going to be his usual self, Westbrook will contribute by filling up the stat sheets but they need more to break out.
Washington needs to build a winning streak in their next 26 games. The Wizards have some winnable games coming up against the Pistons, Dallas Mavericks, Toronto Raptors, Orlando Magic, and Golden State Warriors.
