Russell Westbrook will not be looking to take over as the main man for the Washington Wizards in his first season with the team. In a recent appearance on the Off The Bench podcast (via Quinton Mayo of NBC Sports), the one-time NBA MVP made it clear that it is still Bradley Beal's team.

Westbrook claimed that his job is to turn Beal into an even better player.

It’s going to be a learning process. Brad’s going to have to learn me but most importantly I’m going to have to learn Brad because he’s in a position where he can take off another step. My job is to make sure I help him and make the game easy for him,” the new Wizards star shared.

Russell Westbrook has been unfairly tagged as a selfish player in the past, so his most recent sentiment is certainly a good sign for the Wizards franchise and its fans. Bradley Beal undoubtedly rose to superstardom in 2019-20, tallying career-best numbers of 305. points on 45.5 percent shooting from the field and 35.3 from deep, along with 4.2 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.2 steal in 57 games.

If Westbrook can indeed help Beal play even better next season, it'll prove that moving John Wall and a first-round pick was the right call for Washington. Plus, Brodie is no stranger to playing alongside fellow superstars, teaming up with the likes of  Kevin Durant, Paul George and James Harden in the past.

The Wizards. meanwhile, finished with a 25-47 record in 2019-20 and missed the postseason after Beal was sidelined due to an injury. Westbrook would certainly love to turn this franchise's luck around in hopes of finally finding a new home. This marks Westbrook's third team in three years after that one-year experiment with the Houston Rockets failed miserably.
