While Washington Wizards head coach Scott Brooks won't completely shut the door on Dwight Howard playing again this season, he admits “time is running out” for the former All-NBA center.

Howard is still recovering from back surgery. The Wizards have 16 games left in the season.

Dwight Howard has only played in nine games this year, his first in Washington. The eight-time All-Star averaged 12.8 points and 9.2 rebounds in those games he appeared in while shooting 62.3 percent from the field and 60.4 percent from the free-throw line.

The Wizards are 27-39, good for 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings. They trail the Miami Heat by four games for the eighth and final playoff spot in the East.

Howard has a player option worth $5,603,850 for next season, one which he will surely pick up. It has obviously been a disappointing season for Howard, who was excited to play with shooting guard Bradley Beal and point guard John Wall in the nation's capital.

Howard is still a walking double-double when he plays. If the Wizards are still in the playoff hunt when Howard is cleared to play, he should be able to help the club. The problem is no one knows if Howard is going to be medically cleared to play before the season ends.
