The Washington Wizards are fighting for their playoff lives. While Wizards head coach Scott Brooks would prefer his team be in the playoffs already, the 53-year-old says this is a fun time of the year for his ball club.

Entering Thursday, the Wizards are 29-39 on the season, good for 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings. Washington trails the Miami Heat by 3.5 games for the eighth and final playoff spot in the East.

“We’re in a tough position but a fun position to be in this time of the year knowing that we’re still fighting and playing for something,” Brooks said, via Candace Buckner of the Washington Post. “Our guys are still competing. I’ve been on teams where that’s not the case.

“I think as players or coaches, to me, this is one of the best times because now you’re fighting for a playoff spot, your fighting position. The tournament’s coming around the corner, it’s March Madness. Baseball season is about to start . . . The weather has changed and the time change has happened.”
