Sheldon Mac's season with the Washington Wizards is likely over before it even started.

According to the latest update by the Wizards, the second-year swingman underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn left Achilles tendon, which he obtained during Sunday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The team furthered that Mac is expected to miss six to eight months recovering from the injury, sidelining him for the upcoming 2017-18 NBA season.

Mac was carried out of the game by two members of the Wizards medical team last Sunday. He attempted to make a dribble move during the second quarter, but then his tendon suddenly snapped that caused him to fall on the floor.

The 24-year-old's injury comes as a big blow for him, especially after making it to the roster despite going undrafted last year. He played in 30 games and started three for the Wizards in the 2016-17 season, averaging 3.0 points and 1.1 rebounds in 9.6 minutes of play.

It remains to be seen what Washington will do with Sheldon Mac's roster spot. However, the team is still set to pay him $1.3 million due to the partially guaranteed contract he signed last season.

Putting money aside, though, here's to hoping he has a speedy recovery and return to the NBA hardwood.
