The Washington Wizards appear to be close to rounding out their team's new front office for the upcoming season.

Team owner Ted Leonsis and newly-appointed general manager Tommy Sheppard recently spoke with Fred Katz of The Athletic, as they shed some light on how the team came to a decision to hire former NFL team executive Sashi Brown as Washington's new chief planning and operations officer.

“We live in a world where someone is gonna say, ‘They hired a football guy?! What are they thinking?” Right? And it’s like, no. You’ll see. We’ve gone really, really deep in basketball,” said Leonsis.

For his part, Sheppard does not believe that Brown's lack of a basketball background will hinder his performance as a team executive for the Wizards.

“We take a lot of ideas with each other because we’re in the same business,” Sheppard told The Athletic. “You hear me say it all the time, but we’re all trying to rob the same train. … Obviously, Sashi himself is an attorney and he’s done a lot of things in the NFL, sure, but the pursuit of putting a team together and having to make decisions on personnel, those are great things. I think his area of expertise for us won’t necessarily be in personnel or in the basketball decisions as much as bigger (things), being a great resource certainly legally and all the other things that he’s done but helping us with technology, helping us with facility management. Those things are gonna be humongous.”

It is without question that the Wizards are caught between a rock and a hard place right now.

However, it does seem like the front office knows what they're doing, so at this point, the Wizards faithful will just need to put their faith on the process.
