Washington Wizards center Thomas Bryant delivered a double-double during Saturday’s loss to the Miami Heat, but amidst his strong performance was a regretful moment. As Heat center Kelly Olynyk and Bryant tussled for the ball during the fourth quarter, Olynyk gave Bryant a gentle shove, which the D.C. big man took as his hint to go sprawling across the hardwood.

The play was reviewed for flagrant contact, just to be dismissed by replay officials for obvious embellishment. Olynyk was able to laugh about the whistle after the fact.

Bryant was trying to steal his team a few additional chances at the free-throw line in a tight game, one that the Wizards desperately needed to win in order to stay relevant in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. With the loss, the team now sits 6.5 games behind the Heat for the No. 8 seed with just eight games to play.

Bryant logged his 10th double-double of the season Saturday, finishing with 17 points and 11 rebounds. The second-year center has started 45 of the 64 games that he has appeared in this year, taking over for the injured Dwight Howard. Despite his spot amongst the starting five, Bryant has seen his minutes relatively capped, averaging just 19.5 per contest.

At still just 21 years old, a second-round pick of the Utah Jazz in the 2017 NBA Draft, Bryant appears to have found a niche with the Wizards, averaging 9.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Despite the awkward flop that could earn him a fine from the league office, he has shone when given a chance to take the floor for D.C.
