Before the 2018-19 NBA season started, Washington Wizards center Thomas Bryant was expecting to back up Dwight Howard at the center spot and play here and there.

Howard's back injury, though, limited him to nine games this season, which means the Wizards had to insert Bryant into the starting lineup. The 21-year-old put up just 1.5 points with the Los Angeles Lakers last season, so no one in the nation's capital was expecting much from Bryant.

Fast forward to today. Bryant has been one of the most consistent players for Washington. The New York native admits his teammates believing him is the main reason why he has been playing well this season.

“My teammates believe in me,” Bryant said, via Candace Buckner of the Washington Post. “It’s a real big thing. I give it all to my teammates. They believe in me to make that shot, time and time after I missed so many shots this month, this year. To have that confidence is great.”

Against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday, Thomas Bryant hit the game-winning layup plus the foul off a great pass from Wizards star Bradley Beal. Bryant finished the game with 18 points and 19 rebounds in 39 minutes of action.

Overall on the season, Bryant is putting up 10.0 points and 6.0 rebounds. The Wizards are likely going to miss the playoffs this season, but Bryant's development has been a bright spot for the team.
