Golden State Warriors star guard Stephen Curry shared his thoughts on Rui Hachimura's historic selection in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Curry was recently in Tokyo for a basketball clinic and was asked to share his thoughts on Hachimura — the first Japanese player to be selected in the first round of the NBA Draft. He was the ninth overall pick by the Washington Wizards. As Curry told Jim Armstrong of the Associated Press (via nba.com, Hachimura's entry to the NBA is a great sign that the league is expanding all over the globe.

“It's exciting for the NBA to have representation from Japan and countries all over the world,” Curry said. “It speaks to how the game of basketball is growing everywhere, especially here. For him to be a trailblazer in terms of doing something that has never been done is good for this country.”

In addition, Curry shared his observation on the game of the 6-foot-9 Gonzaga standout. According to the Warriors sharpshooter, Hachimura has good size and high basketball IQ. He added that Rui's game will definitely evolve once he learns more about NBA basketball.

“Just from watching him play, I know he's got good size, obviously,” Curry said. “He seems to have a high basketball IQ, good touch around the rim too. I'm sure as he gets into the NBA his game will expand. I think he fits into the direction the NBA is going right now; being able to score and put pressure on the defense no matter what the situation is.”

Wizards fans should watch out for Hachimura. Curry said it himself: the young man has the capacity to wreak havoc on basketball's biggest stage.
