Jarell Christian could soon be part of a bigger operation in the nation's capital. The Washington Wizards recently made changes to their front office, promoting Tommy Sheppard to the role of general manager. Sheppard has a lot of things on his plate as the Wizards plan toward the future of the franchise. Likewise, he is also looking to finalize the team's coaching staff lineup.

Candace Buckner of The Washington Post reports that the Wizards are considering the promotion of G-League coach Jarell Christian as part of the team's coaching staff under Scott Brooks.

According to several people who are close to the situation, the team will promote Jarell Christian, the former G League coach, to join Coach Scott Brooks’s staff.

Christian most recently served as head coach of the Capital City Go-Go, the Wizards' G-League affiliate, this past 2018-19 season, leading them to an even 25-25 record. Unfortunately, they did not make the postseason in their inaugural G-League campaign.

The 32-year old Christian started his NBA coaching career as an assistant with the Oklahoma City Blue, the Thunder's G-League affiliate, holding the role for four seasons from 2014 to 2018. He served as an assistant for the Thunder in the 2017-18 season.

The Wizards are currently in no-man's land and are nowhere near competing for a championship. Arguably their best bet to build a championship-caliber roster sometime in the future is to tear it down now and start over.

Washington will likely have to move All-Star guard Bradley Beal at some point this season to maximize the value it can get for him. Surely, contending teams will pay a hefty price of future assets and young prospects to get a dynamic, in-his-prime scorer such as Beal from the Wizards.
