Coming off a season where they were a win away from making it to the Eastern Conference Finals, the Washington Wizards can consider it a successful campaign and are in a good position to build on the momentum they currently have. With their two stars, John Wall and Bradley Beal playing well together, they just need to make sure they keep their core together, and add a few key pieces to possibly have an even deeper run in the playoffs next year.

One of their players who is slated to become a free agent this summer is Otto Porter, who played an important role for them, and had his best season as a pro this year. He had career high averages of 13.4 points, including 51.6 percent from shooting, 6.4 rebounds, 1.5 steals per game, and turned himself into a defensive stopper as well, guarding their opponents' top small forwards. That said, the Wizards have made it known that they intend to re-sign the 23-year-old Georgetown product, which was recently confirmed by team president Ernie Grunfeld, via J. Michael of CSN Mid Atlantic.

“We want to keep Otto. We've said that. He's a very valuable piece for us. He fits the puzzle very well. At the appropriate time we'll sit with his representative and work it out.”

“The longer a young team is together, the better they'll be.”

With his strong performance this year, it's expected that Porter will generate a lot of interest from teams around the league who are looking to bolster their forward rotation. If there's any good news for the Wizards, they'll be able to match any offer made to him as he is a restricted free agent.

Porter's situation is definitely something worth keeping an eye on and will be interesting to find out where he'll end up next season. The Wizards are hopeful that they can keep him, as they want him part of their future plans, and it remains to be seen if he also plans to continue his career in D.C.
