The Washington Wizards face a pressing question heading into this summer, with plenty of suitors eyeing shooting guard Bradley Beal as a potential addition to their respective teams.
The Wizards have yet to hire a full-fledged president of basketball operations, reportedly eyeing Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri to come to the nation's capital, despite having a capable hand sitting as the interim in Tommy Sheppard.
The decision to keep or trade Beal, at this time, likely rests with team owner Ted Leonsis, according to David Aldridge of The Athletic:
If Leonsis insists on keeping Beal, as league sources indicate remains his thinking, well, you can’t dismiss that as folly. Having asked a few people around the league who know what they’re doing, a number of them said if they were in Washington’s shoes, they’d hold onto Beal and figure out the rest later.
While he has stayed true to his word during his tenure as owner, it was Leonsis who initially guaranteed the trio of John Wall, Beal and Otto Porter Jr. would remain intact, only for the Wizards to trade Porter shortly afterward.
Much of this will depend on what offers the Wizards could get in return for Beal, but as it is with Wall sidelined with injuries, the shooting guard remains the only option the Wizards have to remain competitive in the upcoming season.
