The Washington Wizards have been surprisingly feisty of late without various notable players healthy, including Bradley Beal, Rui Hachimura, Thomas Bryant, Davis Bertans, Mo Wagner and, of course, John Wall.

In those players’ absences, however, an unlikely hero has emerged: Ish Smith, the journeyman point guard that has played on a whopping 11 teams in his nine-year NBA career.

Smith has played extraordinarily well over the past few games, and home fans showered Smith with “MVP” chants as the Wizards knocked off the Celtics in fairly impressive fashion by a final score of 99 to 94 on Monday.

Ish Smith is having one of his best seasons this year — his first with the Wizards — by shooting quite well from downtown. Though not a stunning number, Smith is shooting a career-best 37.2 percent from deep.

Entering Monday's game against the Celtics, Smith is averaging 11.0 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists while shooting 46.1 percent from the field. However, over the course of the past three games with the Wizards, Smith has scored 27, 32 and 27 points respectively, the first two of which were career-highs.

MVP indeed.
