The Washington Wizards and New York Knicks faced off Monday night in New York City, and the Wizards barely eked out a 110-107 victory thanks in large part to their excellent backcourt. Bradley Beal scored 27 points, while John Wall recorded a double-double with 18 points and 15 assists.

Unfortunately for Wall, his night didn't consist of just highlights. With one minute left in the second quarter and the Wizards on defense, Wall completely fell asleep on defense, allowing Emmanuel Mudiay to casually jog about to the corner before draining a wide-open triple:

Obviously, the internet was not going to let such a boneheaded move slide, and John Wall was soon getting ripped on Twitter:

While Wall is undeniably an offensive force and is frequently counted as one of the most talented guards in the league, his defensive effort has been questioned for years now. It is not uncommon to watch Wall play and wonder if he is really going 100 percent on the defensive end, and the difference between his offensive skill and defensive work ethic is pretty obvious.

Wall is known as one of the fastest players in the league, and he has the physical potential to be a great defensive player, but only shows this in flashes. This has become extremely frustrating for both Wizards ownership and their fan base, as the team looks to their star player to set the defensive tone but get a lukewarm response.

If John Wall turns around his reputation as a sloppy defender, he can easily become one of the most feared players in the Eastern Conference while convincing the Wizards he is worth building their future team around.
