The Michigan-Wisconsin fight resulted in the suspension of Wolverines head coach Juwan Howard, a punishment that was announced on Monday. Earlier that day, Michigan State Spartans head coach Tom Izzo, one of the more well-respected coaches in the NCAA, spoke out on the incident, via USA Today.

“When I watched it on a big screen and I saw people swinging, I saw the fans right behind them, it reminded me of the Malice in the Palace. And it bothered me,” Izzo said. “But what instigated it, I don't know that whole thing. I feel bad for Juwan, I feel bad for Gard, I feel bad for all of them that are involved in it, because nothing good comes of it. That I've learned in the last few years, nothing good comes of it.

“So I'll just say that what I hope for everybody's sake, more than the punishment that's dealt. I hope the lessons have been learned and we move forward.”

Tom Izzo said that when he watched the Michigan-Wisconsin fight, it reminded him of the NBA's ‘Malice at the Palace', the infamous incident between the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers where fans and players met face-to-face and fought. Izzo also said that he felt bad for Juwan Howard and Badgers HC Greg Gard.

Izzo went viral for seemingly “screaming” at one of his players, when, in reality, he was merely giving his player some tough love. The Michigan State coach certainly understands the power of a negative story spreading, but also the power of learning from one's actions. Izzo said that he hopes that the Wolverines' Howard and others involved in the Michigan-Wisconsin fight learn their lesson moving forward.

That's the hope of any who watched the incident, which was very bad for college basketball.
