The Xbox Series S is the best-selling console of Black Friday 2021. Not the Nintendo Switch. Not the Xbox Series X. Heck, not even the PlayStation 5. It's the Series S, a console that many may have given too little faith when first revealed.

Adobe Digital's Economy Index found that the Series S console was the most popular console during the Black Friday Sale. As reported by Business Insider, “among the over one trillion visits to U.S. retail sites measured by Adobe, the Xbox Series S was among the top selling items thus far for Black Friday 2021.”

Of course, it's undeniable that the supply issues for both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X played a factor in these statistics. Even the Nintendo Switch OLED version faces shortage issues as chips still prove to be in short supply. Still, consoles won't sell if gamers don't want them. It can be argued that those who originally wanted the PS5 or the Xbox Series X only settled with the Series S. But the figures still show that interest in the cheaper, much more compact Xbox console has been high. For a smaller and more budget-friendly console, players get to experience games like Psychonaut 2 and Forza Horizon 5, so it's not like people are getting short-changed for getting an Xbox Series S.

Indeed, some may even argue that the Series S by itself, in a vacuum, is a great console to have. We'd agree with that assessment, as the Series S can do everything that the Xbox Series X can do, except for eating discs and outputting at a higher resolution. Those can be “nice to haves” rather than “must-haves” for many gamers, and at the end of the day, anything that lets you play Forza Horizon 5 is already a great console all by itself.
