Yan Xiaonan currently has a fight booked with Marina Rodriguez for UFC 272 in March. That hasn't stopped the top-strawweight contender from looking at her options currently in the division, like Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
Before getting the Marina Rodriguez fight at UFC 272, Yan Xiaonan created a list of the women in the strawweight division that she was hoping to fight. She's still in the title picture so a big fight made sense next.
“Before I got the fight with Marina Rodriguez, I had my list of the names of who I wanted to fight,” Yan Xiaonan told ClutchPoints through a translator. “It was just the top-ranked fighters who were higher than me or below me. Joanna is one of them. I want to fight her.”
Joanna Jedrzejczyk has a target on her back ahead of her return to the UFC. She has not fought since UFC 248 in March 2020. It was one of the greatest fights of all-time against Weili Zhang.
Now, many fighters are hoping for a chance to fight her while she's still in the UFC and looking to climb back to the title. Yan Xiaonan is part of the people hoping to put her striking to the test.
“It depends on the UFC's decision. I would be happy if I had the chance to fight against Joanna. She is an amazing striker and I'm great at striking as well. So it's going to be a good fight.”
The fight could potentially happen should either of the two become champions or become next in line to fight for the UFC strawweight title. Yan Xiaonan currently is set to take on Marina Rodriguez at UFC 272 in March.
