New York Yankees star Aaron Judge's contract extension talks have been one of the main points of discussion during the club's offseason, as well as in the time leading up to Opening Day. It seems like both sides want to get a deal done, though time is of the essence, given Judge's preference to avoid contract talks in-season. With New York prepared to have an offer by Opening Day, Judge's teammate Gerrit Cole offered an honest reaction to the extension talks, via the New York Post.

“I don’t want to speculate [on Judge’s free agency], because there’s this window right here and then at the end of the year [before he hits the market], but I would say when the Yankees want somebody and their back is up against the wall, if Hal wants to get it done, he gets it done,’’ Cole said Thursday at Steinbrenner Field.

Cole, who knows a thing or two about negotiating a contract with the Yankees, said that if owner Hal Steinbrenner “wants to get it done, he gets it done.” The ace righty also noted that when the club's back is against the wall- which it will be soon- they tend to move quickly.

For what it's worth, Steinbrenner has spoken about how Judge is a “special player” and “great Yankee.” That doesn't mean a contract extension will happen, though it does mean that Steinbrenner recognizes how important The Judge is to New York.

Cole and his fellow Yankees teammates certainly don't want to see Judge go. Neither do the fans. It's time for Steinbrenner to heed Cole's words and extend Aaron Judge.
