The New York Yankees have had a confusing offseason to say the least. On one hand, they have added some valuable pieces through trade while surrendering capable big league talent in the process. They also re-signed Anthony Rizzo instead of pursuing Freddie Freeman in free agency. And that is where the confusion stems from.

New York was expected to be a major player in the free agent market this offseason. Players such as Freeman, Trevor Story and Carlos Correa were all linked to the Yankees entering the offseason. While all three of those players still remain on the free agent market, the Yankees have not been as aggressive as people were expecting. But Hal Steinbrenner knows what he is doing and his recent comments will provide Yankee fans with some comfort.

Steinbrenner stated the following in regards to an Aaron Judge contract extension.

“We will be having conversations, I have no doubt, in the weeks to come.”

Yankee fans have been vocal about their displeasure so far this winter. But locking up a fan favorite such as Judge is exactly the kind of move they are looking for.

Aaron Judge has previously stated that he is open to an extension as well.

The 29-year old All-Star outfielder clubbed 39 home runs in 2021 to go along with a .287/.373/.544 slash line. He is one of the best players in the game and will be crucial for New York's World Series chances this season. If an extension were to occur, it would likely be soon since players typically avoid contract talks after Opening Day.
