The New York Yankees have been hit hard with injuries in the past few days. On Tuesday, the Yankees announced that veteran closer Aroldis Chapman would be headed to the 15-day IL as a result of Achilles tendinitis. Aaron Boone mentioned Monday that Chapman, who has struggled of late, had been dealing with some pain in his Achilles, and now the Yankees are going to temporarily shut him down in hopes he can get right.

The team is describing Chapman's ailment as left Achilles tendinitis and he will be forced to miss at least two weeks, but could very well be out for longer. No timetable has been given in terms of Chapman's return, and fans will likely need to wait a while until a more clear update is available.

The move to place him on the IL comes amid a truly woeful stretch for the 34-year-old. Chapman has been struggling throughout the month of May, surrendering at least one run in each of his past five outings. Over his last 3.2 innings on the mound, Chapman has surrendered six earned runs and walked two batters while striking out four, prompting some fans to question whether he's the answer at closer. With Chapman sidelined, those fans will get to see a new face in for the ninth inning.

Chapman's injury comes just as the Yankees lost Chad Green and Luis Gil for the season. Both pitchers are set to undergo Tommy John surgery in what was a significant blow for the Yankees bullpen. Now with Chapman also sidelined, the Yankees are running out of available arms.
