The New York Yankees have the best record in all of Major League Baseball, but they are far from satisfied. Even with a loaded offense and a fantastic pitching staff, the Yankees are still looking to improve their roster before August's 2022 MLB trade deadline. According to Peter Gammons of The Athletic, the Yankees are keeping a close eye on Cincinnati Reds pitcher Luis Castillo.

The Yankees have talked Castillo, as will a number of contenders from the Dodgers to the Blue Jays, but the Yankees’ track record of scouting and developing pitchers — like Clay Holmes and Michael King — has become equal to that of the Dodgers and Rays.

Castillo is expected to gain more interest in the coming weeks for at least a couple of reasons. For one, he could remain under team control until the end of the 2023 MLB season. He's also a relatively dependable asset who could be a solid addition to the Yankees' rotation that already boasts the likes of Gerrit Cole, Nestor Cortes, and Luis Severino.

The Bronx Bombers are not desperate for help in the pitching staff, as their starters have come up with a 7.7 WAR, 3.00 ERA, and 9.18 K/9 — all top-five numbers in the majors so far this season. However, there's no stopping the Yankees from trying to pounce on a chance to get better.
