Zach Wilson was one of the fastest rising college stars in the lead up to the 2021 NFL Draft. From a quarterback that wasn't high up on many mock drafts, the Brigham Young University standout skyrocketed into the top of everyone's big boards enough to get picked second overall by the New York Jets. However during draft night, he wasn't even the biggest standout from his family. It was actually Zach Wilson's mom Lisa Wilson who stole the show and unsuspecting viewers' hearts in the process.

As Zach Wilson stepped up to the plate to bear the weight of an entire NFL franchise on his shoulders, his mom Lisa Wilson was deemed the NFL Draft's breakout star.

The Jets QB was asked by Craig Carton on his WFAN show about all the newfound attention the NFL world was giving his mother:

“I'm just wondering how awkward that is for you, that you just got picked second overall in the draft, and the focus is, wow, his mom is really hot. I'm sure you've dealt with this your whole life, but now it's playing out on Broadway. How awkward is that for you?”

Zach Wilson responded to the awkward question about his mom in the most polite way that he could:

“Yeah, it's not my favorite for sure. I like to keep her out of the spotlight. She's an awesome lady and I love having her support.”

Beyond just being a supportive sports mother to kid good enough to be an NFL quarterback, Lisa Wilson has grown her own social media following. Just a few months following the 2021 NFL Draft, she's garnered over 35 thousand Instagram followers, with the number growing by the day.

On her Instagram page she describes herself as a fitness fanatic and intuitive cook, as well as a mother to six children. She'd often post her various recipes and how-to's up on her page for tasty meal prep ideas for sporty moms like her to try out for themselves. After all, the fact that she's raised one son to be a highly touted NFL prospect gives her some credibility in that department.

She would also post other DIY tips and useful kitchen advice that she narrates herself. Clearly Zach Wilson's mom has found some highly effective household hacks and she's not afraid to share it to the world in the only way she knows how. Want to make you're prepared to cook a meal under extraordinary circumstances in an emergency? Or maybe you're having trouble cleaning up your microwave easily? Lisa Wilson has you covered.

Lisa Wilson isn't shy to share her world on social media. For Zach Wilson, this clearly doesn't come without its drawbacks. The Jets QB apparently offered her cash if she would deactivate her social media accounts, or probably at least keep them private. She revealed such in a short video, and also the noble reasonZach Wilson's mom: Lisa Wilson Zach Wilson Lisa Wilson Jets she couldn't adhere to his request.

Lisa has developed her own social media presence apart from her son, where beyond just sharing her own family's exploits, she aims to motivate and inspire women. Instead of letting the unwanted attention get to her, she’d rather channel it into a platform that can help others. Zach can’t be mad about that, right?

Zach Wilson's mom has also been married to husband Mike for 24 loving years. Mike Wilson was a defensive tackle for the Utah Utes from 1992 to 1995. Lisa has been a fervent supporter of the Utes and the thought of her son going to BYU was not in the cards early on.

Via Salt Lake City Tribune:

“I said ’no way, no way. Nope, not a chance. We are not going down there. That’s not an option,’” Zach Wilson's mom said. “We had written them off because they hadn’t recruited Zach at all. They hadn’t even sent him a form letter.”

But after some convincing from father Mike, the Wilsons gave BYU a shot with a day visit and were reportedly “treated like kings.” Which helped the family make the right decision to sign on with the university. As we know today, Zach Wilson made the most of his college stay and turned into the dynamic offensive weapon he is today.

Zach Wilson's mom Lisa Wilson has played a huge role in preparing the Jets QB for the big leagues, but also being an inspiring figure for women like her as well.
