First look images of Young Sheldon‘s finale have been released — they showcase the returns of The Big Bang Theory's Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik).

The images come via DiscussingFilm on X. The first shows Parsons' return. He is smiling while looking at a computer. A second image was also shared and features Amy looking over his shoulder.

This is a monumental moment in the CBS prequel series. Parsons has appeared in Young Sheldon in a voiceover capacity, narrating the series. Bialik has also made voice cameos in a select few episodes.

They will now both be seen in the flesh for the first time since The Big Bang Theory ended in 2019.

Why are Jim Parsons, Mayim Bialik returning?

The duo of Parsons and Bialik returning felt inevitable. After all, they were the driving force of The Big Bang Theory. And while they appeared in voice roles in Young Sheldon, this provides an opportunity to catch up with them as they have a family of their own.

It's also entirely possible they only appear for a scene. The Young Sheldon finale will probably try and wrap up all of the storylines with their characters. Perhaps Parsons and Bialik shut the laptop seen in the images to close out the series.

What is Young Sheldon?

Young Sheldon is a spin-off prequel to The Big Bang Theory created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro. It depicts the early life of Sheldon Cooper as he goes through high school and college at a young age.

Iain Armitage took over the role of Sheldon Cooper for Jim Parsons. As noted, Parsons does remain involved in the series as he narrates the series as an older Sheldon.

Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Raegan Revord, Montana Jordan, and Annie Potts also star in the series.

Young Sheldon premiered in 2017 while The Big Bang Theory was still airing. After a couple years of overlap, The Big Bang Theory concluded in 2019. After seven seasons, Young Sheldon will also be coming to an end.

That is five less seasons and over a hundred less episodes than The Big Bang Theory got during its run on CBS. Perhaps the showrunners feel that there aren't enough stories left to tell in Young Sheldon's life after seven seasons.

It's not totally over, though. The main series will conclude on May 16, 2024. In the fall, the first Young Sheldon spin-off, Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage, will premiere.

The new series will follow Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy (Emily Osment) as they raise their child, Connie (aka “CeeCee”). Upon its premiere in the fall, it will take over Young Sheldon's slot on CBS' programming. It will take over the 8 pm ET slot on Thursday nights.
