With the Oklahoma City Thunder currently leading the Golden State Warriors 2-1 in the Western Conference Finals, it's interesting to look at why that is exactly the case.

While you could probably pinpoint many reasons, it may come down to a simple matter of both of their star players reaching the right age at the right time. Both Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook are 27 years old as the Thunder look to win their first championship since moving to Oklahoma City.

According to Ben Cohen of The Wall Street Journal, 27 years of age happens to be the prime of many NBA superstars. It marks a time when they not only reach their peak, but happen to officially break through previously unaccomplished goals.

For example, LeBron James was 27 years old when he won his first championship in 2012 versus Durant and Westbrook's Thunder. The Thunder duo were both just 23 years of age at the time of the 2012 NBA Finals.

The league's reigning two-time MVP, Stephen Curry, was 27 years of age when he led the Golden State Warriors to their first championship in 40 years last season.

Furthermore, 27 years old marked the age of Shaquille O'Neal, Michael Jordan and Isiah Thomas during the seasons in which they won their first championships (they all turned 28 years old later on in the season).

Whether this means that the Thunder are destined to win the 2016 NBA Finals is anyone's guess, but it's interesting to see just how many all-time greats won their first championships at the age of 27.
