The worst-kept secret surrounding the San Francisco 49ers has been officially confirmed with the team declining their option on Pierre Garcon.

The veteran wide receiver signed a five-year, $47.5 million deal but injuries have derailed his success with the team. Over the last two seasons with the team he has only played a total of 16 games, and the team wasn't willing to pay a guy with such injury issues. He finished his time with the 49ers catching 64 balls for 786 yards and a touchdown.

The team saves $6 million by releasing Garcon, but there should be a market in free agency for Garcon to join a new team. If he can stay healthy, he is still a productive receiver, but the injuries have been an issue so it will probably just be a one year deal to whatever team signs him.

Along with the 49ers releasing Garcon, they picked up the options on Kyle Juszczyk, defensive lineman Cassius Marsh, linebacker Dekoda Watson and cornerback K’Waun Williams for next season according to Pro Football Talk.

Juszczyk made another Pro Bowl last season, and he has proven over the years that he is one of the best fullbacks in the league.

The 49ers also tendered running back Raheem Mostert to make him a restricted free agent and tendered exclusive rights contracts to linebacker Elijah Lee and defensive end Greg Mabin.

This is a big offseason for the 49ers who are hoping to make the playoffs, so this is only the start of the transactions.
