With the NBA season now in its stretch run, teams are starting to make moves for playoff spots and are doing their best to win as many games as possible. While the Cleveland Cavaliers also want to string more victories to improve on their current third seed in the East, they may want to lose some games as well.

There are five matches that the Cavs could still benefit from even if they don’t end up with a win in each of those, as it will turn the draft pick they received from the Brooklyn Nets tied for the top overall selection this coming June. This is according to a certain Reddit user roroboat33.

Cavs could essentially turn nets pick to number 1 just by losing

If the Cavs lose both games to the suns and Chicago plus lose to Charlotte their pick would land in a tie for worst.

Tanking may not be the path the defending Eastern Conference champions are taking right now, especially with the flurry of moves they pulled off prior to the trade deadline, that led to them adding four new players to their lineup.

However, it’s still not the worst of ideas to also look ahead as it could mean the guarantee of bringing in a highly-touted prospect out of the draft who could make them even better in the years to come.

For now, it remains to be seen what the team’s front office will decide to do. It could also hinge on how comfortable they are with their playoff seed because if they still want to move up the standings, losing the said games will most likely not be an option for them.
