Things went downhill very quickly for the Dallas Mavericks this season.

Dirk Nowitzki, Rick Carlisle and a cast of just about anybody used to be good for 50 wins a season. With Dirk injured for most of this season, and the supporting cast unable to step up, the Mavs are in worse shape than they've been since the 90s.

Newly acquired center Andrew Bogut has given the team a timetable for how long they have to salvage this season.

Yikes.

But that really is the reality when you start the season 4-15, which is currently the worst record in the NBA. Even worse than the Philadelphia 76ers.

Bogut and Harrison Barnes came over from the Warriors this offseason to hopefully help keep the Mavs afloat and in contention for a playoff spot. No one realized how fragile those aspirations were once Dirk went down.

Nowitzki will be out a few more games at least so the clock really is ticking on Dallas. If things don't change soon, it might be better off tanking and issuing in the post-Dirk era with a top pick.
