The New Orleans Pelicans have not had a good start to their season so far. With a current record of 4-10, they are tied for third-worst in the league.

However, despite their unimpressive record, franchise player and three-time All-Star Anthony Davis has made it clear that he is still committed to the team and that he wants to continue to be the leader of the team.

“My desire to win here is the same. I go out there and play. I don't care what the record is. I just go out there and play. I have to lead this team and make sure my guys are always happy and high energy. I don't care what people say about our team. They're not in our locker room seeing us, not part of our group. That's all white noise.

“I just try to control what I can: go out there and compete.”

If there's any silver lining to their campaign this year it's that the team is still not at full-strength with the absence of Tyreke Evans, who is recovering from a knee injury, and only have had Jrue Holiday back two games ago after a leave of absence to be with his ailing wife. It also doesn't help their cause that their lottery pick, Buddy Hield, has struggled mightily to start his NBA career.

Davis has certainly not given up on their chances and also said that all he wants is to win with New Orleans.

“Injuries happen, and there’s nothing I can do about it. I just wanted to get my body right to be able to play all 82 (games) this year and then play the postseason. I know how important it is to take care of my body and stay on the floor as much as possible.

“I know this team and what people say is noise. We just want to compete and get wins.”

Hopefully for New Orleans faithful it will only be a matter of time until all the pieces fall into place for the Pelicans. With one of the best big men in the league today in their fold, plus an experienced head coach in Alvin Gentry, there's still a glimmer of hope for the team to turn their fortunes around.
