The Colorado Avalanche will attempt to go up 2-0 before the series shifts back to Denver as they face the Dallas Stars in Game 2 of the second round. We're here to share our NHL odds series, make an Avalanche-Stars Game 2 prediction, and pick while showing you how to watch.

The Avalanche rallied from a 3-0 deficit to stun the Stars 4-3 in overtime to steal Game 1. Let's quickly recap how it went down. Initially, the Stars got on the board when Ryan Suter tipped a shot into the net to give Dallas an early lead. The Stars got another when Wyatt Johnston went off the faceoff and careened a shot past Alexandar Georgiev. Then, Jamie Benn plucked a rebound off a Jason Robertson shot and into the net to give the Stars a commanding 3-0 lead.

But the Avalanche began their comeback when Valeri Nishushkin found a loose puck and put a rebound home for a powerplay goal to make it 3-1. Later, Cale Makar came off a pass from Nishushkin and slapped home a powerplay conversion to cut the deficit to 3-2. The Avs came out of the third period quickly when Nathan MacKinnon found a loose rebound and put it into the net to tie the game. Ultimately, this game needed overtime. The Avalanche ended it when Miles Wood zoomed past two Dallas defenders to fling a backhand shot past goalie Jake Oettinger for the game-winning tally.

Why The Avalanche Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Avalanche won this game despite winning only 40 percent of the faceoffs. Despite that, they took advantage of any chances they had. They were 2 for 2 on the powerplant. Also, they leveled 45 hits and blocked 24 shots. Their scorers did well and hope to keep the production going.

MacKinnon now has three goals and nine assists. However, he still needs to improve on the faceoff circle, as he has won just 43 draws and lost 55. Mikko Rantanen now has two goals and nine assists. Likewise, he has won 25 draws and lost 26. Makar now has three goals and nine assists after his strong effort. Meanwhile, Artturi Lehkonen currently has five goals and three assists in the playoffs. After another great game, Nishushkin has eight goals and one assist.

The defense and goaltending clamped down after a slow start in Game 1. Amazingly, their adjustments helped them complete the comeback. Georgiev is now 5-1 with a 2.94 goals-against average and a save percentage of .889. Georgiev made some great saves when it mattered late in the game to help keep the Avalanche tied.

The Avalanche will cover the spread if they continue to convert their powerplay chances. Then, they need to limit the Stars' scoring chances and avoid another slow start.

Why The Stars Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Stars dominated the faceoff circle, winning 60 percent of the draws. Additionally, they blocked 23 shots. But the offense mustered only 22 shots. Unfortunately, something seemed to slow down after their initial three-goal onslaught. Their scorers need to do more.

Johnston currently has five playoff goals and three assists. He has also won 45 draws and lost 47. Miro Heiskanen has one goal and five assists. Meanwhile, Robertson has three goals and three assists.

But Benn has been the one to focus on. Significantly, he netted one goal and one assist in Game 1. Benn currently has two goals and three assists. Even more, he has been excellent in the faceoff circle, winning 52 draws and losing just 26. Benn continued to thrive, winning 13 draws and losing four.

Teams usually win when they score three goals. However, the defense collapsed in Game 1. It was a poor showing on the penalty kill, as they were unable to do anything to stop Colorado, which enabled the Avs to come back. Oettinger was not the best in this game. Ultimately, he now is 4-4 with a 2.15 goals-against average and a save percentage of .915. Expect Oettinger to try to bounce back.

The Stars will cover the spread if they can take more shots and build more chances for offense. Then, they need to do a better job on the penalty kill.

Final Avalanche-Stars Game 2 Prediction & Pick

The Stars started slowly in the last series as well. Unfortunately, a trend if forming. The Avalanche and Stars have already lived up to the hype of this series after one game. Subsequently, we expect another thrilling game. The Avalanche have all the momentum after shocking the Stars. While the Stars have shown they can dominate a game, they also have struggled to hold onto a lead. We expect this game to go down to the wire again, with the Avs covering. The Stars might win Game 2. But the Avalanche will find a way to cover the spread.
